Monday, April 20, 2009 Meeting update from April 9, 2009 The main points of business at our April monthly meeting: 1) How to best go about distributing the refurbished PCs from our computer equipment drive to families who need them. 2) Plans for our Teacher Appreciation luncheon, which we intend to hold on Friday, May 8th (pending approval of our Building Use Form) 3) Discussion of our PTA unit by-laws; an issue which we again had to table due to lack of enough people present to vote on them.
The most important point of business that we discussed, at length, is what to do about the future of our PTA. We need new membership, in particular we must have new leadership, or the Salem PTA cannot continue. In order to be in good standing with the national PTA organization, and in order to follow the guidelines for a non-profit organization, we must have officers or we cannot spend the money we currently have and cannot raise any more funds. The current active members have made a decision that if no new people step forward to fill the vacancies, we will have to vote to put the Salem PTA into "dormant" or "inactive" status. This means that the PTA activities and programs to which everyone has become accustomed will not take place starting with the next school year. There will be no Fall Festival or school supply giveaway, for example. We are all very sorry it's come to this point. If you are interested in becoming an active member of the PTA and being an officer, please attend our May meeting, at which we will be holding elections. That meeting is on May 14th at 7 PM in the High School Library.
Thanks for your support. |
